Cantate Carlisle Welcomes Sue Baxter to our Board of Directors

Sue Baxter recently joined Cantate Carlisle’s Board of Directors and supports our events as the Hospitality Coordinator.

Sue has lived in Carlisle for about thirty years and has two adult children – Megan and John. John is the father of her three beautiful grandchildren, ages 6, 5, and 2. Sue is a retired teacher, having taught Learning Support students on all grade levels. She spent 17 years at Fannett-Metal School District and 23 years at Carlisle Area School District.

Baxter, as a teacher, enjoyed a beautiful rapport with students K through 12

She shared a story of two of her students at North Dickinson Elementary who were “a cute pair and good friends.” They wanted to perform in the talent show and asked Ms. Baxter’s assistance. While Sue narrated, the duo performed the frog and toad story. One of these students went on to get leading roles in multiple middle school productions, making Ms. Baxter proud.

Without a doubt, Sue made a difference in the lives of many students. She shared that she accepted the opportunity to tutor a young single mom who was in jeopardy of failing and not graduating. At the end of the year, the young lady invited Ms. Baxter to graduation, after which she hugged her, introducing her to her family and saying, “This is my favorite teacher.”

Sue’s Love of Music has Taken Her from the Elementary Stages to Carlisle Theatre

Sue’s experience with music started early. In elementary years, she sang in choirs. As an adult, she went on to sing in the Chambersburg Community Chorus and played in the Chambersburg Community Band. She is experienced with the oboe and the flute. After moving to Carlisle, she became active in Carlisle UMC’s music program and currently sings in the choir and with the Women’s Group. She honed her skills as an adult student under the tutelage of Joan Boytim.

A Servant’s Heart has Brough Sue to Cantate

Her love of music even led her to the stage as part of Players on High at Carlisle Theatre. She played George Bailey’s mother in It’s a Wonderful Life and was in Anne of Green Gables. She then served on the Theatre’s board for six years. Her community involvement also led her to SPY (Supportive Partnerships for Youth), Buck-a-Book for adult literacy, and CUMC’s board.

Cantate Carlisle is fortunate to have Sue as part of its current Board of Directors. She looks forward to sharing her talents and gifts with our organization.
