Calling all young singers grades K-4!
THANK YOU for your interest in auditioning for Cantate Children’s Choir (formerly Primer Choir) for singers in Kindergarten through grade 4.
Cantate’s Artistic Director, Michelle Trefren (former director of the Tokyo International Children’s Choir) launched the “Cantate Primer Choir” in the 2023-2024 Season. Some called it an experiment or a leap of faith. For Director Trefren it was a response to a calling, and Cantate is reaping the rewards of working with the youngest voices in our community. This year – in its third year – we are already seeing some Children’s Choir veterans moving from CCC to Cantate Young Voices and bringing their friends to join us. Adding CCC to our Spring concerts has brought an extra spark of joy to the Carlisle Theatre stage, and we cannot wait to watch that happen again.
With the growth of Cantate’s Children Choir, Trefren decided it was time to pass the that baton to Director Meg McQue, a local music professional who has worked in the music education realm for more than a decade.
Cantate Children’s Choir 2026 Audition Application
WHEN:
Auditions are by appointment. (Please use the link below to register first.) Auditions will be scheduled between 5 & 7pm on Tuesdays, November 4, 11, and 18, with November 25 as a back-up if needed.
Rehearsals begin Tuesday, January 6, 2026 and will be held from 5:30-6:30pm weekly.

Second Presbyterian Church – 528 Garland Dr., Carlisle, PA 17013 in “The Commons”
WHAT TO PREPARE:
For auditions, students will sing “Happy Birthday” (starting on C) and do some exercises for pitch matching and memory led by Mrs. McQue.
REGISTRATION FEE:
Includes singer “uniform” tee, coaching and instruction, singing materials, and other items as needed. Payable at or before our first rehearsal, by cash, check (payable to “Cantate Carlisle” with “CCC Registration” in the memo) or can be paid with credit card.

Please check the dates below to make sure you can commit for the season:
Tuesday, 5:30-6:30 – Beginning January 6, 2026
May 1 – Friday Dress Rehearsal at Carlisle Theatre, call time approximately 5-7pm.
May 2 & 3 – Performances at Carlisle Theatre, call time approximately an hour before concert start time through concert end. Directors will announce actual call times. Performances are 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
