2025-2026 Season
Calling all young singers grades k through 8
If you love to sing, we’d love to invite you to audition for Cantate Children’s Choir (K-4) or Cantate Young Voices (5-8).*
CANTATE means SING in Latin, and that’s what we love to do – SING!

Click on the images below to be directed to the information and registration pages for each choir. Additional questions may be directed to Mrs. McQue ([email protected]) or or Ms. Shuey ([email protected]). We can’t wait to meet you.
*Older students may contact Director Trefren at [email protected] to request an audition with the Founding (Adult) Ensemble.

Meet Our Youth Directors:
CYV Director, Janine Shuey:
Ms. Shuey isn’t just the director of Cantate Youth Ensembles; she is the music and chorus teacher at Eagle View Middle School. She teaches students in grades 6 through 8, which makes her perfect to work with you in this auditioned choir.
She was raised in Collegeville, PA and arrived in the area as a student at Messiah University. She earned her degree in music education with a vocal concentration and cello. After graduation, she began her teaching career in Chambersburg schools.
She first came to Cantate when our Artistic Director Michelle Trefren needed a cellist. She then auditioned as a singer. The following year, she assisted with CYV, finally taking the helm in 2023. She’s excited to continue serving as your director.
Fun fact: Ms. Shuey will not (maybe cannot???) drive stick shifts.
If you need to reach out to Ms. Shuey, just send her an e-mail at [email protected]
CCC Director, Meg McQue:
Mrs. McQue and her husband have four children. She is their homeschool teacher, as well as a music instructor offering private lessons. She has accompanied Cantate ensembles in the past and is excited to serve as Cantate Children’s Choir director this year.
Mrs. McQue has a Music Education degree from Susquehanna University and her Masters in Kodaly Music Education from Loyola University. She spent eight years in the elementary general music and choir classroom, and she now teaches piano, elementary, and early childhood music classes, and accompanies local choirs and musicals. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 2007 and after living in Williamsport and Scranton areas, moved back to Carlisle in 2021. She is active in the homeschool community and in her church at New Life Community.
Meg loves working with children and is excited to bring together young singers to create beautiful music together!
She enjoys learning at home with her four children, playing worship music and walking with her husband, Steve, and playing with her two cats, Rocky and Rimsky, who are named after the great Russian composers Rachmaninoff and Rimsky-Korsakov. Mrs. McQue’s favorite hobbies include frisbee, cross-stitch, and swing dancing, but not all at the same time!
If you need to reach Mrs. McQue, e-mail her at [email protected].
